City of Portland - Life Safety Code Enforcement/Plan Reviewer

Deadline Extended - The City of Portland is seeking a fire and life safety professional to review permit applications for compliance with the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) code and other applicable codes.  This self-motivated individual will work both independently and as part of a team to review residential and commercial construction plans, communicate effectively with applicants to resolve code deficiencies in plans, and issue permits.  This position may conduct field inspections to verify compliance, and works with property owners, architects, engineers, contractors and the general public to ensure building safety.  This is a full-time position requiring knowledge and experience in life safety code administration, enforcement of building safety regulations, and the principles and practices of building construction.  Previous experience in plan review and code enforcement is preferred.  Must have or obtain basic State certification as a Code Enforcement Officer, Building Standards, and Certified NFPA Plan Reviewer within six months of appointment.  Must have a valid State of Maine Class C driver’s license, access to a vehicle for daily work use, and must have and maintain a good driving record.  Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.  

Starting pay $966.38/week ($25.77/hour).
