The Land for Maine’s Future (LMF) Program is the State of Maine's primary competitive grant program for conserving land for its natural and recreational values for public use.  The Program is seeking well qualified applicants to fill a Limited Period (2 yr.)  Paralegal Assistant position to join this small team of professionals located in Augusta, Maine.


BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Land for Maine’s Future Program is looking to add a critical member to their team in order to increase the pace and efficiency of awarding $40 million in competitive grant funds. The successful applicant will  provide support to the LMF Board, Director and staff by assisting with the research and review of complex legal and real estate information necessary for the completion of project due-diligence; they will support and facilitate timely and efficient project completion including preparing for real estate closings, maintain data using both electronic and paper records, assist with program reporting and will assist in LMF Board and other public meeting preparations.

The primary function of the position is to serve in a coordinating and assistance role for the Program with an emphasis on the following: filing of public notices, research, analyze and evaluate abstracted title material and provide findings to LMF project managers, research relevant legal facts in order to provide documentation for use by project managers, contract attorneys and AGs office as needed and by the LMF Board in implementing and updating Board policies and practices, maintain up to date legal forms and templates, including state contracting forms for use by program staff, oversee program contracting needs with assistance from the Bureau staff, coordinate real estate closings with assistance from state contract attorneys, assist with data management to include serving as the primary contact for the State’s Conservation Lands Registry and annual grant reporting, participate in LMF Board and sub-committee meetings, recording meeting minutes and prepare minutes for Board approval.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  A Bachelors Degree and one (1) year of paralegal experience in a law firm, court, legal services, state or federal agency -OR- graduation from an approved paralegal course of instruction. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience in Microsoft platforms; form and template development and management; the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; strong analytical skills, attention to detail, an ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

BENEFITS:  The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include: $14.60 for dental insurance; 13.16% of employee’s pay towards retirement; and, depending on the employee’s annual pay, at least 85% ($412.23) of health insurance premiums (more information is available here). Participation in the Health Premium Credit Program can increase state-paid health insurance benefits by 5%.
