The Town of Scarborough Fire Department is seeking a highly skilled full-time Deputy Fire Chief to join our senior management team. The Deputy Fire Chief will assist the Fire Chief in leading an all-hazards, combination department of nearly 200 employees in a community encompassing 54 square miles and a year-round population of 22,000 residents, growing considerably larger during the summer season. The department operates out of six neighborhood stations and responds to nearly 5000 calls for service per year.
Duties include working with the Fire Chief to maintain a highly motivated, well-trained, work force including full-time, per-diem, and call members as well as a longtime student live-in partnership. The successful candidate will provide leadership and command presence, direct all-hazards emergency activities including assuming incident command, ensure compliance with state and local protocols, department SOPs, SOGs and General Orders; and perform other duties as required or assigned.
Position requirements: Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; NFPA Firefighter I & II certification or equivalent; Pro Board Fire Officer Certifications, completion of State certified AVOC/EVOC class; state of Maine EMS license, paramedic preferred; firefighting/EMT experience in a full-time department; (5) years fire/EMS supervision/management experience; and successful completion of post-offer comprehensive physical exams.
