Job Description

 

TITLE:      FF/EMT                        DEPARTMENT:  Fire & Rescue

Work Schedule:  Per Diem                        Pay Range:  $15 - 21 hourly

FLSA:       Non-Exempt                    Revised/Approved:  May 2, 2017

                                          By Durham Board of Selectmen

 

GENERAL PURPOSE:  

 

Performs highly skilled work providing emergency response to the Town of Durham and assists in keeping the grounds, building and apparatus in a peak operational state.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

 

Works under the supervision of the Chief, Office Manager and Officers

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Daytime staffing for emergency responses.
  • Daily inspection of rescue, equipment and EMS equipment in general and minor maintenance
  • Periodic inspection of other emergency apparatus and minor maintenance
  • Periodic inspections of SCBA’s
  • Inspection and minor maintenance of facility and grounds
  • Cleaning of station, grounds, apparatus and equipment
  • Issue burning permits
  • Interact with public
  • Public Education
  • Inspections
  • Assist with record keeping
  • Other assigned duties

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Must be a High School or have received a GED.
  • Must possess and maintain a Maine Basic EMT License
  • Firefighting Experience, preferred Firefighter 1 Certification
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Maine Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • EVOC or other certification accepted by both Maine Department of Labor and Maine Emergency Medical Services

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Situational Awareness
  • Knowledge of EMS rules, regulations and equipment
  • Capability to make patient care decisions based on Maine protocols, generally accepted practice and local expectations
  • Knowledge of fire service equipment and practices
  • Good computer and writing skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Good time management skills
  • Physically capable of moving patients and equipment as required
  • Physically capable of fire service activities as defined in the Department Members Handbook
  • Knowledge of traffic laws pertaining to emergency vehicles and capable of operating emergency vehicles
  • Ability to understand and work within the Town of Durham’s Policies and Procedures

  • Must complete all annual mandatory trainings
