Teen Center Program Assistant

 

Would you love to help create a safe, relaxed, fun atmosphere for teens for the City of South Portland?

South Portland Parks, Recreation & Waterfront is currently looking for someone interested in working in a casual and collaborative environment, and who is fun, energetic and passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of youth in grades 6-12. The Teen Center Assistant will work out of our Teen Center at Redbank Community Center during the school year. This position is responsible for the set up and supervision of a wide variety of activities. We seek someone who is warm, considerate, dependable, independent, and who has a positive sense of humor and a strong work ethic. The Assistant works under the direction of the Teen Center Coordinator who in turn reports to the Recreation Programs Manager.

 

During the school year, this position works Monday – Friday from approximately 2:30-6:15pm, or 17-19 hours per week. The hours increase during school vacation weeks and certain other days (including teacher in-service and early release days).  Hours during the summer would be between 20-30 hours per week for up to 9 weeks to work in the summer recreation camp program.  This position would have a 2-4 week break (unpaid time off) before the start of the new school year teen center program.

This year, the position begins in early September.

 

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, and we prefer at least 2 years’ experience working with youth in grades 6-12. Must have an understanding of age-appropriate behavior and the ability to set limits to maintain safety. Ability to manage, supervise and positively motivate participants. Must be mature, flexible and a good role model. Clean driving history is required.

Starting Pay – $16.15 to $18.41 (depending on education and experience) per hour.
