Maine Public Employees Retirement System is seeking an Associate General Counsel to work under the direction of the General Counsel.
This position provides counsel, legal advice, and assistance to the Maine Public Employees Retirement System and its business units by reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating investment and procurement contracts. Along with contractual work, the Associate General Counsel will assist in rulemaking proceedings; researching and preparing responses to freedom of access requests; assisting in the oversight of the administrative appeals process; supervising outside counsel and legal staff when the General Counsel is unavailable; and other duties as assigned.
Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
At least five years of progressively responsible experience in a comparable legal environment with a focus on one or more of the essential functions identified above.
Strong personal and professional ethics.
Current membership in good standing with the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar and licensed to practice in Maine.
At least two years prior experience in one of the following: (1) reviewing, analyzing and negotiating private market investment documents or (2) tax law applicable to public pension plans.
Benefits: Salary range is $106,739 to $160,108 annually.
