Substance Use Prevention Specialist: Cumberland County

The Substance Use Prevention Specialist is an integral member of Cumberland District Maine Prevention Network (MPN), a State grant funded program of the County’s Public Health Department. This position is responsible for the implementation of substance use prevention initiatives within Cumberland County.  This position actively engages in the Cumberland District Substance Use Prevention Team and collaborates with the other Maine Prevention Network funded staff working to prevent tobacco use and promote healthy eating, active living to create a strong prevention infrastructure within Cumberland District. This position actively partners with the Immigrant Health Promotion Specialist and population-specific subcontractors to design and support strategies that address the health needs of populations who typically go underserved by prevention work.

Guided by the Strategic Prevention Framework, this position assesses local substance use prevention needs and opportunities; provides leadership and technical assistance to build the capacity of local stakeholders and systems in planning and implementing prevention initiatives; and supports the integration and implementation of tailored strategies that impact community environments.

The chosen candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in health education, social services, political science, health education, public policy, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training to meet selection criteria.
  • Experience in health promotion, public health, substance use prevention, harm reduction, and/or recovery support services.
  • Certified Prevention Specialist preferred.

This position is 40 hours per week, with a full benefits package. Pay is commensurate with experience.
