Public Works – Highway Department and/or Transfer Department
The City of Sanford is currently accepting applications for seasonal full-time Laborer positions, 40 hours per week, in the Sanford Public Works Department. This employee could be assigned duties in the Highway Department or the Transfer Department depending upon where they are needed most.
This is unskilled work in the area of road building, road maintenance, water drainage construction and related tasks of the Department. Work will be performed under supervision at all times. The Applicant must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, city officials, and the general public.
High School Graduation or a GED is required. Must have and maintain a valid State of Maine Class III/C operator’s license, class II/B desirable. Post secondary vocational or mechanical training is highly desirable. Must possess the physical strength and ability to perform necessary duties pertaining to the job requirements. Must have a telephone in the home or must have immediate access to one.
The pay for this position is $25.00 per hour. Work is assigned and primarily carried out from the Public Works Director, Assistant Director or their designee. Work assignments will encompass all areas of the City of Sanford.
All applicants that possess a CDL Class A or B are required to pass a drug test as a prerequisite of employment, prior to final hiring. All applicants must successfully pass a background check to the satisfaction of the City.
