Hancock County Government is seeking full time Dispatcher to fill a vacancy in our Regional Communications Center (RCC).
The Dispatcher assists the public by taking both emergency and non-emergency calls for service and dispatch that information to the proper responding fire departments, emergency medical services or law enforcement agencies in the county as required. 40 hour a week position with benefits. This position requires shift work with scheduled and occasional short notice overtime, and includes overnights, weekends and holidays.
Required: High School diploma or equivalent, valid Driver’s license, computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office/Word, knowledge of county and towns geographic layout. Must successfully complete the following within six months of employment: terminal operator control course, CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatching Course. Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm and maintain control in stressful situations. Candidates must successfully complete CritiCal exam, background investigation, and polygraph exam.
Preferred: Minimum one (1) year in the public safety field and previous experience in radio communications desired. Applicants without previous experience must be able to obtain all required certifications for continued employment within the first six months of employment.
The starting rate of pay for the Dispatcher position is $ 20.57 and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience. Additional overtime earnings opportunities.
Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Hancock County background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.
