Who Should Attend:

This new, half-day workshop is designed to help elected officials, municipal managers and other leaders learn what motivates people to get involved at the local level, how to encourage citizen participation and how to channel that energy as productively as possible.

Course Information:

There are many ways in which people participate in civic, community and political life and, by doing so, express their engaged citizenship. From volunteering to voting, from community organizing to political advocacy, the defining characteristic of active civic engagement is the commitment to participate and contribute to the improvement of one’s neighborhood, city or town – and nation. But, how can municipal leaders energize citizens in productive and positive ways? This workshop looks at motivations for civic engagement and the tools to use to help bring it on.

About Christopher T. Gates: Gates works with a variety of philanthropic and non-profit organizations on the issues of philanthropic and non-profit practice, political reform and civic engagement.
