The Maine Welfare Directors’ Association will be hosting its annual Spring Seminar at the Hollywood
Resort Hotel and Conference Center in Bangor, Maine on April 27th and 28th, 2020. This two day
event touches on all aspects of General Assistance administration and is intended for GA
Administrators, Select Persons, Clerks, Town Managers, and others responsible for administering GA.
We think we’ve put together a seminar with something for everyone! Day one includes legislative
updates, the nuts and bolts of taking a basic GA application, GA and social security reporting
requirements, Project Hope, and an interactive presentation on how we all deal with stress in the
workplace. Day two will feature a more advanced GA application, electric disconnects, social media,
building skills for dealing with challenging clients, and a fun activity that will test your knowledge of
GA administration. Day two will also feature a brief MWDA annual meeting culminating in the
announcement of the 2019 Maine Welfare Director of the Year! There are MTCMA certification
credits offered for many sessions. Please review the agenda for specific details.
Both days will feature a 50/50 raffle and fun prizes. Proceeds from the raffle assist in providing
Spring Seminar scholarships to those who would like to attend but can’t afford the cost. There will
be four scholarships awarded, and you can visit www.mainewelfaredirectors.org to download an
application. As always, guests are welcome for breakfast and lunch. Please remember to indicate any
guests on your registration form.
The Maine Welfare Directors’ Association Executive Board invites you to join us for dinner at 5:30
pm on Monday the 27th. We will gather at Geaghan’s Pub & Restaurant to enjoy good food (pay on
your own) and a great networking opportunity. Space is limited, so please make sure to pre-register
for the dinner when you submit your Spring Seminar registration materials. We had a great group last
year, and we’re looking forward to another great turnout.
Finally, we’d like to encourage you to join the Maine Welfare Directors’ Association if you aren’t
already a member. Membership significantly reduces the cost of attending MWDA trainings held
throughout the year. Your membership will very quickly pay for itself if you take advantage of the
many opportunities to learn and network with your colleagues. It also opens the door to General
Assistance certification opportunities. To become a member, visit www.mainewelfaredirectors.org.
We look forward to seeing you at the Spring Seminar!
Rindy Fogler, President
Maine Welfare Directors Association
