Course Description: This one-day basic course is designed to focus on the procedures of excise tax. Emphasis will be placed on how to calculate excise tax and the mil rate for various types of motor vehicles.

NOTE: Please bring your calculator and a copy of the 2009 MMTCTA Excise Tax Manual. Members may download the 2009 MMTCTA Excise Tax Manual FREE off the MMTCTA website at: https://www.mmtcta.org/members/publication/. Please feel free to bring your copy of the Excise Tax book that you use in your office. Copies will no longer be provided at the workshop.
Cancellation:
Cancellation notification must be given in writing at least 7 days before the session begins, by 4/12/23. Any cancellation received within that 7-day window will be charged the full registration fee. Certification: This Basic Excise Tax course is an MMTCTA mandatory course for the Maine Municipal Tax Collectors’ and Treasurers’ Certification Program. Participants must check in at the beginning of the course and be present for the full day to receive a certificate. Certificates will be handed out after the class and will not be mailed. If you do not pick up your certificate after the class, you will not receive credit for attending. For attendees who must leave early for emergency situations; a determination will be made by the Professional Development Committee of the Executive Board as to the nature of the emergency and whether a sufficient portion of the course was covered to warrant certification credit. *Any member whose certification expires must attain their original certification again.
