City of Portland - Aquatic Programmer II - Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department

 

Permanent, year round, part-time 30 hour/week position

 

The City of Portland Aquatics Division is offering a creative opportunity to engage with the community and make a difference as an Aquatics Programmer II. The Aquatic Programmer II performs aquatic work in the delivery and monitoring of aquatic classes and programs at the City of Portland’s aquatic facilities. This position involves promoting and enforcing water safety. This position is responsible for instruction, direct participation, and contact with the public, school staff, community groups and other aquatic staff during aquatic programming and lessons. Work requires the use of independent judgment and initiative. Lifeguards are responsible for the safety of our guests and staff in and around the Portland pools.

 

Requirements:

 

• Promising candidates will have strong communication skills and the ability to promote safety and work well in a team environment.

• Prior experience working with preschool children and youth is desirable.

 

Training and Experience Desired:

 

• Previous experience, training and education in aquatic activities. Knowledge of human and child development.

• Knowledge or experience in therapeutic recreation.

• Multilingual preferred.

 

Necessary Special Requirements:

 

• American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED/PR and First Aid.

• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification.

• Must have and maintain First Aid and CPR/AED Certification.

Salary & Benefits:

 

This is a union position, CEBA (Grade 8) - Starting at $19.78/hr.
