Training for: Parks & Recreation

 

PARK RANGER - Department of Parks, Recreation & Facilities - FT, 37.5 hours/week

 

Seeking a qualified individual to ensure the safe use of Portland’s vibrant parks and open spaces. Responsibilities include enforcing park rules and regulations, providing the public with general assistance, providing information about programs and services, developing and implementing park educational outreach programs. Candidate will oversee operations at East End Beach including renting storage space for kayaks and dinghies, collecting fees for recreational boat launches, and coordinating with other beach users including a kayak rental company, a rowing club and commercial vehicles accessing a commercial boat launch.

 

Requirements:

 

• Candidates must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

 

• Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are essential along with the ability to work successfully and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

 

• Knowledge of park or natural resource management is required.

 

• Candidates must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, walk long distances and ride a bicycle on trails.

 

• Certification in CPR and First Aid is also required.

 

• This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

 

• Must possess valid Class C driver's license in good standing.

Salary & Benefits:

 

This is a union position, CEBA (Grade 10) - Annual base pay range $40,228.76- $42,159; plus $1.00 stipend for all hours worked.
