SHELTER ATTENDANT (Homeless Services Center) * Multiple shifts available*

 

Come #dogoodworkwithus! Work 3 days a week with all the benefits of a full-time position with the City! This is a position at the state’s largest homeless shelter and related overflow sites and operates out of the Homeless Services Center located at 654 Riverside Street in Portland.

 

Duties include:

 

• Welcoming and registering homeless men and women in need of shelter.

• Inputting required data into an online data system.

• Monitoring dorms, common areas and shelter grounds.

• Frequent cleaning of dorms, common areas, bathrooms and grounds is required.

• The position also involves crisis intervention and triage for over 200 clients per night.

• Position includes rotation to multiple stations each shift, including walking up and down flights of stairs and between multiple facilities.

• Also includes set up and take down of dormitories, including moving of mats, cots, chairs, tables, full laundry bags and other items as required.

 

Requirements:

 

• Positive attitude with exceptional patience.

• Customer service skills required.

• Experience working in a homeless shelter.

• A valid Class C Maine Driver’s License preferred.

 

Available Shifts:

 

Full Time (37.5 Hours/Week), Permanent Positions, The schedule for these positions are:

 

• Sunday - Tuesday 7:00 pm - 8:00 am

• Sunday - Tuesday 7:00 am - 8:00 pm

• Thursday - Saturday 07:00 pm - 8:00 am

• Thursday - Saturday 07:00 am - 8:00 pm

• Monday - Wednesday 07:00 pm - 08:00 am

• Monday - Wednesday 07:00 am - 08:00 pm

• In addition, a monthly two - hour staff meeting is required.

Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.

 

Salary & Benefits:

 

This is a union position, CEBA (Grade 9), Starting at $19.54/hr.
