Equipment Mechanic III - City of Lewiston

Training for: Public Works

Accepting applicants for EQUIPMENT MECHANIC III with the City of Lewiston’s Public Works Department. Applications are available at the Human Resources Department or online at www.lewistonmaine.gov

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Division:         Public Works- Municipal Garage

Barg. Unit:      AFSCME Public Works

Status:             Full-Time, 40+ hours per week

Grade:             9 [starting at $27.35/hour]

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a high school diploma, or equivalent, with a minimum five (5) years experience in mechanics, maintenance and repair. Experience with heavy equipment, hydraulics and small engines is a plus. Willing to train the right candidate. Qualified candidates must have excellent communication, computer and office skills; display attention to detail and be able to work in a team environment.

WORK ACTIVITIES: Inspects and diagnoses gasoline, diesel, automotive and construction equipment. Overhauls and repairs brakes, transfer cases, differentials, universal joints, motors, ignitions and hydraulic systems for both trucks, trailers and various other equipment used in Public Works operations. Operates automotive test equipment and power tools used in repair and service work, including electronic diagnostic equipment; uses meters and testing equipment to check charging systems, starters, etc.  Prepares records of work completed and parts used.

REQUIREMENTS: Qualified candidates must have a valid Maine driver’s license in good standing. Preference given to candidates with the ability to obtain, or current valid Class B or Class A license, as individuals in this position may operate Class A vehicles with appropriate license. Applicants should have a valid State of Maine Vehicle Inspection license, or be able to obtain within 12 months of employment. The ability to obtain A.S.E. certifications is a plus, stipends paid for 4 or more certifications.
