Course Information:
This 2-part webinar will cover the basic requirements and procedures for local town meetings and elections, including: the procedure for calling, preparing for, and conducting “open” and secret ballot town meetings and elections, the role of the moderator and clerk, and post-election matters.

Day 1 (Basic Requirements for Holding a Town Meeting; Pre-Meeting Preparations)

- General Overview of Town Meetings and Elections (Chapter 1)
- Calling a Town Meeting (Chapters 2&3)
- Special Considerations; Budget Matters; Ordinances; and Voter Petitions (Chapters 4&5)
- Preparing for a Secret Ballot Election (Chapter 8)
Day 2 (Conducting a Town Meeting; Day-of and Post-Election Matters)
- Electing a Moderator (Chapter 7)
- Conducting an Open Town Meeting (Chapter 7)
- Conducting a Secret Ballot Election (Chapters 9&10)
- Post Election Matters (Chapters 11&12)
Please note: ALL participants should have a copy of the current Town Meeting and Elections Manual (January 2020 ed., last revised Feb. 2024) to refer to throughout the training, as Instructors teach directly from this manual. Please note there are TWO supplements to the Manual available that attendees should have on hand for this training. Manuals are available to purchase online at https://ebiz.memun.org/PersonifyEbusiness/Store or by calling the MMA Publications department at (800) 452-8786. Manuals may also be downloaded for free from MMA’s website (www.memun.org), in the Member area under "Legal."

Registrants will receive their Zoom link and meeting details directly from MMA Zoom no later than 24 hours in advance. An official workshop confirmation from MMA will follow with further instructions and access to meeting materials.

Cancellations for MTCCA Webinars:
Cancellations must be submitted using this Cancellation form to cancel your registration for an event. Cancellations received before 1/31/25 will be charged a $15 cancellation fee. Cancellations received on/after 1/31/25 will be charged 50% of the course fee. Any registrant who does not attend and does not cancel their registration (i.e., no-show) and any cancellation received the day of the event will be charged the full registration fee. Exceptions to this policy will not be considered.
