Part-Time Building Service Worker/Custodian

Training for: Parks & Recreation

Starting Hourly Rate: $18.00 to $20.00 based on experience

The Town of Scarborough’s Community Services Department is seeking a part-time Building Service Worker/Custodian to work late afternoons and evenings in multiple buildings. This is a janitorial position that is responsible for the general cleaning and minor maintenance of the buildings. This position performs a wide variety of custodial duties which requires the use of standard cleaning tasks, tools, and supplies. Work involves preparing rooms for meetings and performing day-to-day custodial services such as collecting and removing rubbish and recyclable materials, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors, dusting, cleaning restrooms, washing windows, and assisting with snow removal.
 
Position Requirements: Knowledge of the methods and supplies used in the daily cleaning of buildings. Ability to work independently and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work nights and occasional weekends. This position requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as computers and boxes. Requires exercising safety precautions when working around hazardous materials. Must have a valid driver’s license, graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, and experience in custodial work. In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
 
Regular working hours are scheduled Monday through Friday, hours per week will be based on candidate’s availability. Hourly rate $18-$20/hr. based on experience. Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screening is required.

The Scarborough Town Hall is located at 259 U.S. Route 1, just south of the junction of Rt. 1 and Black Point Road/Gorham Road.
