Patrol Officer - Augusta

Training for: Public Safety - Police

Responsibilities

  • Patrol City streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to preserve the peace and enforce the law, control vehicular traffic prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving City ordinance violations, misdemeanors, felonies, and other law violations and to otherwise serve and protect.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency radio calls or other transmissions and investigation accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, fights, drunkenness, missing children, prowlers, abuse of drugs, etc.  Takes appropriate law enforcement action.
  • Interrogates suspects, witnesses, and drivers.  Preserves evidence.  Arrests violators.  Investigates and renders assistance at scene of vehicular accidents.  Summons ambulances and other law enforcement vehicles.  Takes measurements and draws diagrams of scene.
  • Conducts follow-up investigations of crimes committed or reported during assigned shift.  Seeks out and questions victim, witnesses, and suspects.  Develops leads and tips.  Searches scene of crimes for clues.  Analyzes and evaluates evidence and arrests offenders.
  • Prepares a variety of reports and records including investigation reports, field interrogation reports, OUI reports, bad check reports, vehicle impoundment/inventory form, etc.
  • Participates in investigating criminal law violations occurring within the city limits, obtaining evidence and compiling information regarding these crimes, preparing cases for filing of charges, testifying in court, and related activities.
  • Conduct patrol activities including directing traffic, investigation of reported or observed violations of law, and conducting patrol activities.
     

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent college.
  • Maine Driver License is required with no O.U.I. conviction.
  • Passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Alert test.
  • Maine Criminal Justice Academy physical fitness test.
  • 200-hour Pre-Service Certification is preferred.
  • Physical fitness test, oral interviews, in-depth criminal and personal background investigations, polygraph test, psychological exam, and physical are required of selected applicants. 

 

Pay Scale

  • Full-time, non-exempt - union position.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision and disability insurance, pension, and generous paid time off.
     

Pay range: $25.79 to $34.43 per hour.
