Town of Harrison P/T Assistant Code Enforcement Officer

Come be part of our Team… the Town of Harrison is accepting applications to fill a part-time to full-time Assistant Code Enforcement Officer. (ACEO)/Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI).  The ACEO/LPI is responsible for assisting the CEO with inspections of plumbing, and enforcement of all local codes and zoning violations.  ACEO must become knowledgeable of the codes for Harrison and the State of Maine as well as the Town’s land use ordinances.  

The Assistant Code Enforcement Officer is an administrative/operations support position under the direction and supervision of the Code Officer in accordance with Local, State, and Federal Laws. Work includes but is not limited to a review of all plans and materials submitted with various applications to establish compliance and issue applicable permits. Performing all necessary and required inspections; enforcing ordinances and laws accordingly; investigating filed complaints; pursuing compliance through legal avenues in consultation with the Town Manager.

The ACEO is expected to carry out his/her responsibilities with initiative, independence, and confidentiality while exercising sound problem-solving skills and professional judgment.  The ability to interact with the public in a professional manner is a must. Contractor-level experience in electrical, plumbing, water, and sewer experience is preferred. Applicants must be certified or be able to become certified, within 12 months, in the areas of Shoreland Zoning, Floodplain Management, Plumbing (internal/external), Legal, and Land Use.  Working knowledge of Building Standards/MUBEC is a plus. Computer fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel and an understanding of submitted plans is required. Working knowledge of GIS and government software is preferred.    

Contractor-level plumbing, electrical, water, and sewer licenses or experience is preferred. Clerical functions include data entry, typed correspondence, verbal communication, tracking and violation letters, and record keeping. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
