Town Planner - York ME

Training for: Planning

The Town of York, a coastal community comprised of the villages of Cape Neddick, York Harbor, York Village and York Beach with a population over 13,000 year-round residents, is accepting applications for the position of Town Planner.

The purpose of this position is to assist the Town Planning Director with performing municipal planning functions and provide staff services to the Planning Board and other Boards/Committees in Town. This position reports to the Town Planning Director.  Duties include, but are not limited to: processing and/or reviewing development proposals for compliance with town ordinances; facilitating, maintaining, updating, and implementing the comprehensive plan; assisting with the development of zoning, subdivision, and related development and land use ordinances; interpreting ordinances; preparing planning related zoning maps and providing mapping services utilizing GIS as assigned; performing additional related tasks as assigned by the Planning Director. Work is done with considerable independence and is evaluated by the Planning Director.

Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture or closely related field with a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible municipal planning experience required. Master’s degree and AICP certification desirable.  Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.

The position is a full-time, exempt, union position and will require attendance at regularly scheduled evening meetings as well as potential periodic weekend work. The starting salary is $83,701.34. The Town of York follows a salary step schedule which provides an estimated 5% increase plus COLA every year for the first 3 years of employment and then every third year subsequent to that. The Town also offers a benefit package including health insurance, life insurance, two retirement plan options, a generous paid time off policy, and 13 paid holidays.
