Transportation Planner

Training for: Planning

 

The Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments (AVCOG) is seeking an Urban Transportation Planner. This position is located in Auburn and will provide a range of planning services for the Transportation Division related to short-range and long-range transportation infrastructure planning with a primary focus in Small Urban settings. This position supports the Androscoggin Transportation Resource Center (ATRC) who is responsible for transportation planning in the greater Lewiston-Auburn Area.

 

Responsibilities include assistance with the implementation of ATRC’s transportation infrastructure planning program; utilizing GIS in traffic and transportation planning; assist with data collection for transportation planning purposes, including traffic counts, accident data and traffic signal data. In addition, this position will assist in other planning studies and analysis related to Safe Systems Approach, Complete Streets Policy and Design, Active Transportation and Climate Initiatives, working with both AVCOG’s transportation staff and municipal staff.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation, urban or regional planning; public administration; or related field;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to manage concurrent tasks efficiently;
  • Ability to manage one's own time and work in a team environment;
  • Ability to participate, and lead, meetings – both virtual and in-person;
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable motor vehicle.

 

Additional highly desirable skills/qualifications:

  • Experience in transportation planning and analysis (3-5 years) 
  • ESRI ArcGIS experience

 

This job may require field data collection. Data collection typically takes place on roadways throughout the region and has the following physical requirements.

  • Ability to drive to data collection sites with applicable equipment
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations
